In the past few years, since 2013, we have always had to suggest DNS servers for clients, both personal and business for the various applications and layers we were working with - 1 through 7.

For DNS resolution, we have used the ISP suggested handler from 1997 to 2005, and since 2005 it was Google DNS. (8.8.8.8).

Since 2013, we started to move away from Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and added in Level 3 at 4.2.2.2 and since 2018, we started to add in IBM Quad9 9.9.9.9 and then in 2019, we added in Cloudflare at 1.1.1.1.

In the past 15 years, we did use OpenDNS until 2015 when Cisco bought them out and changed the name and service to Umbrella.

So who is the latest winner? For me personally, I still like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for primary and secondary DNS.

However, recently, in our testing we have liked 9.9.9.9 for Quad9, and now more importantly Cloudflare at 1.1.1.1

We just switched up our WIFI and LAN services for DHCP to primarily do 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 --
