In the past 30 days, a dozen of my business clients and more are starting to recycle and eliminate their old computers, electronics, networking devices, servers, cables, ups units, and more.

the good part is older computers are being taken out of service that no longer have operating systems that are safe to use on the Internet and/or the hardware is not capable of upgrading to the latest operating systems and security. The important part of recycling those computers is the data destruction and protection of peoples business and personal data on those computers.

Once the computer is safely backed up and business and personal data is on another storage medium for long term preservation and/or transferred to a new computer, then the old computer can be safely discarded.

How to discard?

One of two ways, if more than 15 highly valuable electronic devices are available, Nevada Recycling will schedule a free pickup of these items and they will be put back into the system safely and securely and ground into bits if necessary.

The second way is just throw it in the trash. Waste Management does a great job at just smashing and land filling these devices without prejudice or discrimination. It is just metal and plastic. Just throw it in the trash. If there is a hard drive within, consider just hitting it with a hammer really hard a half dozen times and that drive won't be accessible for the most part. It's just shatter glass and components after that.
