So, you have the Brother QL-710W label printer like me, and you have Linux Mint 19.3 and Libre Office Writer 220.127.116.11, and need to print out some labels. Since I switched from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 19.3 I have had this label printer sitting next to my computer plugged in via USB and not showing up. So, what do you do? Well, the time has come to print some labels for some business correspondence.
So if you are new to this, like me, you need to just download the (who comes up with these words) CUPS printer driver from Brother, that was sort of easy, and when you go to install driver, you have to download it first, ql710wpdrv-3.1.5-0.i386.deb, then right click on it, and install with the GDebiPackage Installer, and once that is done, you need to know your label size, so download the office templates officetemplate.tar.gz as well from Brother and extract those into your Documents folder which becomes office template.
Then you need to figure out which ODT file.
For me, it was 1 1/7" x 3 1/2" which works out to be the 29mm - 90mm.odt file.
Once I opened that and tried a few of the wrong ones prior to, my label printer just gave me a RED flashing status light until I got the right one. I just pressed the power button to clear the red status error until I go one that worked. It took me three tries yet I got it.
Good luck to those that try this and get it to work. I might try and shoot a video on this so others can appreciate how fast and easy it can be if you have a clue about converting us label sizes to metric, and so on.
Good luck. I consider 5 minutes to figure this out a good win. I have had this QL-710W for almost 2 years on Windows 7 and then 10, and the download and drivers worked very good. I have about 10 clients with the same sort of model 700 series and they just love it. For me, getting it to work on Linux Minut let alone Linux in 5 minutes made me feel great!! I got 10 business letters out with nicely done labels in about 15 minutes after I got through this setup and configuration.
more to come...
ps. I still love my MFC-8710DW laser printer and so do all my clients with their Brother office laser printers.
