Windows 10 does it support PS/2 keyboards - Yes but not by default

just had this problem and this worked for me; how stupid is that and Microsoft has the worst copy and paste wrong answer ever...

this is the real answer:

If it doesn't work with a simple plug and play, do this:

Open Regedit.
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > i8042prt
Set the default value for "Start" to 1.
Restart your machine.

It worked also for me. Also in my case the value was set to 3. The PS/2 keyboard had stopped to work once that I had used an USB keyboard for a short time – a_big_friend Nov 20 '17 at 6:48

i8042prt is the Windows driver for standard PS/2 keyboards and mice docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/hid/…. This part of the Windows Registry contains settings for the driver's corresponding service (docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/install/…). The start type SERVICE_SYSTEM_START (1), causes it to be started automatically during OS initialization. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/ifs/… – rakslice Jan 27 at 19:45
