Hard Drives and Arrays - which drives does one use

In the past 15 years, we have had the opportunity to build and balance hard drive performance to price, quality and warranty.
What hard drive is the best? That is a loaded question.
The question should be, "What is the purpose and application being solved?"
For backups, daily computing, video editing, video surveillance, mission critical applications, there are just a few things to consider:
1. name brand does mean something - Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung, or other OEMs
2. performance, 5400 vs 7200 vs 10000 RPM
3. warranty matters; 1, 3, 5 year solid clad warranty
4. technology ; platter spindle magnetic vs solid state vs nvme m2
5. inventory and availability; not proprietary
6. reviews and quality; mean time between failure (MTBF)
7. price; price per gigabyte
8. configuration support; raid, noraid, mbr, gpt, hpfs, etc...
what else...
for us, we look at options for desktops and servers. back in the day, we had a small OS boot drive, and fast, and large bulk drives. today that is coming back but not really published as such.
a 120GB ssd for OS boot, and then 2, 4, 8 TB data as a single drive or multiple drives up to 40, 60, 100 TB in red, gold, black, purple drive technologies.
it matters what you choose for the right price. shop around and load up during black friday cyber monday and red tag sales...end of year, end of quarter... just make sure the warranty is good for your use.
make sure you have drive monitoring software enabled and logging and reporting if a large application... blinking red lights bad.. blinking green lights good...
