After 50 years, does it seem right that AMD is now leading ahead of Intel?
Yes.
Why?
Because of focus on the multi-tasking nature of workloads in the performance computing environment. Its just like staying focused on the math and the spirit of computational workloads, and not the marketing feelings and funny euphemisms used in the market spin arena.
Most of us in the real world of heavy computing knows what benchmarks and performance mean when it comes to getting something done.
Microsoft may make things pretty, yet usability is more of a factor than cuteness.
AMD focused on not burst mode yet sustained workload. Its like IDE versus SCSI which led to SATA and beyond like bonded networking and bulk workload throughput.
Intel liked the big bang theory of CPU thrust yet not the sustained workloads in parallel that AMD perfected and continues to push.
The lowering of TDP and TCO and still gain throughput and output is a staggering feat as well.
