There was a nice article on Microsoft Windows 10 operating system and why so many bugs; and it said back in 2015 Microsoft got rid of software testers. If true, I would not complain. I remember my days at Microsoft where we had a whole building full of testers and when I would walk through and visit some of my friends, wow, talk about laid back.
Windows 10 has still some issues that are not as bad as one thinks. For all the work that goes into an operating system, just look at the whole Linux community for every distribution. Each has an amazing story, life and history of software quality, testing, bug regression, product release dates, windows, major CVE notices.
Software is an amazing development, much like hardware, and how it can help us explore, create, destroy, improve, digress, and do whatever we want for whomever we like.
Now, don't get me wrong, there were testing labs that were definitely under full steam and full pressure to run scripts and unit test things.
When I first started at Microsoft PSS in Bellevue Washington, one guy named Chuck L. and another named Tim R, both were cool. Tim only lasted a month and quit, saying the pace and dignity of treatment was low. He was previously an industry consultant and very smart, and I could tell he was not fit for work, too political and slow paced, and Chuck, well he was a great product tester, and he lasted about 1 year at PSS and then transferred into Development Testing. He was cool.
Development Testing was a good pace for Chuck. He did not like the phones as much, nor did I, but I needed to learn the product fast, and where else, product support. For me, after 18 months of 9 hours a day, 7 on the phone, 1 at lunch and 1 in research, I switched up gears and moved on to Microsoft Software Manufacturing (Replication to be exact for North America and International products).
Testing in all our teams and products was essential. our Software Release group was awesome and always under pressure. We caught bugs and glitches all the way through the SDLC (software development life cycle), from silver, gold to release. Good times. Stressful as all get out.
