Technology Associations over time

whatever happened to some good grassroots technology associations that actually lasted.
one in particular lasted for nearly 30+ years until the founder died. it continued but not with the same zeal.

I recall being apart of that for 7 years, President for one year, and with some of the great people. The ones that got rich were here today, gone tomorrow. We knew who they were.
For the sake of history, will we have more organizations that start and continue based on a great legacy and founder? I hope so.
