Patreon versus PayPal

what is the difference, benefits, weaknesses.
I have seen a lot of people sending me Patreon links instead of PayPal because of the non-profit organization status and goals of being artisans.
Let me get this straight.
PayPal is 2.9% + 30ยข per transaction and the rest to you.
Patreon is 5% + 5% per transaction and the rest to you.
Hmmm.... for supporting the artisan, why is 10% better than 2.9%?
my friends at Linux Mint where I regularly donate and they started a Patreon account. I just wondered if I was wrong about the math and percentages above. Maybe it's just another way to donate and some don't like PayPal, another company owned by Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

FYI we use paypal or patreon, patreon has 3x the transaction fees, so we don't, not yet.
