SSD benchmarks low, high, good, great

So after 3 days of testing my 500GB SSD on SATA III controller and changing from one SATA III controller to a newer one, versus the onboard SATA II controller, the benchmark score was 3800 versus 2800, and the average was 4470. Odd. what's the hold up?
 
more investigation is required. the scores below are interesting though. in comparison to an NVME M.2, that's where I should be, and I knew it.. 4-5x faster than SATA III but then again, a score over 10,000 is just crazy fast.
