to the reader: this article is being evolved and updated by the minute, so read carefully with all thing considered... an epiphany I once had many many decades ago is evolving - i just realized it could be called The National Dashboard of All Things Important
Let's begin. It is Sunday morning and the USA elections are coming to a close yet this is an ongoing process, over and over. This article was meant for yesterday, Saturday, yet I had to wait for an epiphany of sorts.
In between elections, what happens? Things are decided and things get done, and things do not get done.
This is where leadership, responsibility and accountability come together as one. It's not a new idea, just something that needs to be kept simple and applied simply. Regardless of the actors and players, the game is the same at any size, scale, and location.
If it were so simple, where is the pie chart and dashboard for the whole ball of wax that we call country, our country on a whiteboard that is always nearly up-to-date, can be drilled into, and explored, monitored, reported on, and given praise when done right, and corrected when done wrong.
Where does the visibility of all activities and resources in the dashboard get viewed, analyzed, updated and praised for the in between times? Does all of this exist already?
Is it that simple: legislation to action? From need or ideas, wants and thoughts, to pen and paper, agreed upon or not, and then implemented or not.
My only questions with answers for the last 50 years of my life, starting at the age of about 15 are:
1. the 6 question words: who, what, when, where, why and how
2. the MBA leader sort of answer is the 6 M's; man, machine, methods, materials, management and metrics
3. the business analyst's sort of answer is; needs analysis, gap analysis, root cause analysis
4. the program/project manager sort of answer is; there must be dashboards and dotted reporting structures
5. the growth leader psychologist sort of answer is; Maslow, Myers-Briggs
6. the box of leftovers sort of answer is; poetic, prophetic, meaning, symmetry, chaos, opportunity
7. there is more to this list... just had to jot down the first few that came to mind...
where does this all lead?
Ah ha! Again!
The National Dashboard of All Things Important; that is what I call it for all intense purposes. I have been asking for that concept to become reality for nearly 15 years, maybe 20 years since 1998.
As an inventor, entrepreneur, leader, engineer, supporter, believer and more... I find this journey in life to be worthy of writing down and sharing. This is where my desired Think Tank of Normal People come to meet and share real life needs and end up finding extraordinary ideas to solve massively complex problems. Tip - Remember to not try and eat the whole whale at once, just small bites at a time.
more to come...
