My first experience with domain name services (DNS) management was back in the winter of 1998 when I started doing support contract work for an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Northern Nevada (Winnemucca). The ISP was called The-OnRamp.Net and it was fun being the NOC manager slash dot applications integration designer and developer.

What was fun was learning Bind 4.9.5 without any help let alone any documentation other than a few examples and a read me text file.

Actually adding zone files and updating serialization of zone records was interesting.

When did you start doing DNS management? Since then, 1998, I have spent more than 25 years managing DNS for all sorts of clients, products, projects and teams. Fun Fun!!

DNS is one of those services you cannot and should not mess with if you do not know what you are doing.

Today's automation and integration is pretty slick yet one still needs to know how it is manually done.

From the days of NetSol (Network Solutions) to WinSave, GoDaddy, Wild West Domains, NetNames and more, it can be surely interesting when folks do not understand all it is and what it does.
