Legacy systems continue to thrive. While they try to keep up and catch up with newer technologies, they just work. Don't forget your COBOL and FORTRAN77. They still work fundamentally correct.
Also, those who know how to manage and migrate systems are becoming more valuable that ever. The Y2K was one thing, more of a fake hiccup if you will, yet by the year 2030, databases and other programming frameworks will come full circle.
