When the first Internet acceptable use policy (AUP) came out back in the 50's and 60's it was rather basic.
Basically, do no harm and be a good steward of these unique and powerful resources at your fingertips.
Fast forward 70 years and here we have legislation and litigious experts and non-experts weighing in on the consequences of what happens when one willfully violates those safety principles and guidelines.
Ironically, its like speeding and knowing the speed limit. When you get caught, was it willful or not? Let the judge decide I guess or just get off with a warning. For me, a basic drivers license examination covers most of the basics and the areas and fringes where one might get into trouble takes some doing - if willful.
Those unknowingly getting involved in bad areas of the Internet can be slapped on the wrist if it negatively affects others; yet for laws we have for most electronic based commercial and non-commercial activities; its pretty easy to apply some common sense and let the cats and dogs run wild on this powerful Internet of Knowledge.
