WFH for Professional Leaders and Managers does not work, even remotely

I was reviewing the current status of out of office messages aka "OOF" and working from home aka "WFH" for professional leaders and managers over a lengthy period; the decay of team cohesion and vision and mission was quite staggering.
Walk around management style is best for diverse teams; especially lean teams; those that are nimble and need psychological reinforcement of staying on task and on objectives.
What I have noticed in the last 2 years, and now a crescendo, is that leaders and managers at a professional level, mostly white collar, at a senior management level or director level or higher, cannot keep the ship going straight while "working from home".
Why? Jack Welch sort of said it best, and I will paraphrase, you have to know the people from the bottom to the top, on a daily basis, to have the trust and cohesion to move any ship of any size in the right direction and at the right speed.
Maybe I said that a decade before Jack did, yet since he is/was a great leader, why not carry on with his words and legacy.
Even remotely working does not work, so don't think for a second you have things covered by saying, my team can handle it without my direct presence. Well, if that is the case, maybe the team does not need one with that attitude at all.
Remember, as the tide rises, so do all ships - if you believe in team cohesion and the spirit of team. If a ship aka team member is anchored to the bottom of the bay, they too shall become scuttled and sink, yet not the rest of the fleet.
