NAS Backup devices being targeted, again

A client reported that his Western Digital 3TB NAS storage device, single drive, was recently formatted and wiped, and WD support confirmed the hack. There was nothing they could do. The hack was worldwide, and unfortunately, data recovery tools are still processing the drive(s) to see if the factory wipe is recoverable. In most cases, it is not.
While many use the drives for archive purposes, they usually do have a live version of the data and in some case, they don't and end up losing archive data. This is where I cloud backup NAS backup devices as well. It's cheap and good fire insurance.
