oh, another week of testing in the aws ec2 cloud. which ami and which platform, which region.

the fun part, getting the right balance in the instance type to the application type. definitely use the instance type calculator and consider the developers needs. i know it sounds korney, yet sometimes you have to balance want versus need for prototyping versus production. oh, the load testing and ddos testing is not allowed mostly by aws. the terms say, nope, don't do it. you might impact others and send false alerts and disable your account.

recently, had to upsize and upscale the instance because the bandwidth needed to be increase and burst mode was working yet we didn't want to spike the cost if the overall load average was above the baseline.

me, personally, the t2 or t3 micro for dev test was perfect and ubuntu 18 versus older and new. the funny part is the security was wide open on the start and thank goodness we battened down the hatches within the next 10 seconds. ;-) the hardening part of a linux test server is vital in the cloud. do it right, do it fast, and keep an eye out for penetration testing.

more to come...
