First of all, let's just agree, its okay to reboot and power cycle a network router by staff and leaders at an office to troubleshoot a network outage. Agreed.

Now, Reset a Router? Uh. No. There is complexity in the configuration of a business router that should not be lost or reset, yet a good backup of the configuration will solve it, and yes, we can do that and have done that. The firewall rules, vpn configurations, dmz configurations, lan to wan to lan to wireless trust configurations, dhcp configuration, dns scoping, licensing configuration, advanced threat protection configuration, performance configuration, and more... it's okay. it can be fixed, yet in the meantime, the outage continues, the vulnerability to the business is possible and we have little time to let it remain out of compliance and configuration protection. Good stuff huh?!

When the ISP instructs staff to do that, and the router is not the ISPs, well, the ISP should be notified, that is not a good idea. In fact, I have no idea why an ISP help desk would not verify that the staffer has the authority and training to do a reset, a power cycle sure, a reset, hit the reset, hold the reset, hmmmm. it's okay. No one knows. No names are listed or given, and only a lesson to be learned. Its okay.

The best thing to do is just realize, if a business router is reset by staff, just understand and deal with it.

It's okay. That's one's job to just fix things and move on. Team work. That is the deal. Training and Trust.
