After doing about 3 hours of image processing for a client, their photography and image library for their website, I came across this article on photography, image enhancements, by an enhancement AI feature called Adobe Raw Capture.
For me, using graphics enhancement tools that go back 20-25 years, this is a huge improvement on image resolution interpolation.
I use to teach and ask my students in image processing and photography, what are the differences in image rending via a computer display versus hard print? they were like, not so sure. So, I have a few articles in my blog here that break it down.
Let me repeat the high points.
1. image format are for print or digital display; ergo TIF/TIFF and EPS or JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, WebP
2. light is a big factor. you learn that in black and white only photography learning at the beginning. for print aka hard copy, light is reflective to the image surface, and for lcd/led displays it is emitted.
3. images are lossy or lossless; ergo JPG vs PNG vs BMP. meaning, when you open an image, alter it, and save it, the image is saved bit by bit at resolution, pixel by pixel or not and interpolation is factored and reprocessed and saved.
note: in #1 this does not include the extensions of formats that are created in RAW format from camera's. Today, each manufacturer has their own filename extension that is specific to RAW formats instead of rendered/processed formats.
just remember to have fun with your images, photography and storage, backups, and processing. I know that up-sizing images for print has been difficult until now. to take a 1, 2, 4 megapixel image and up res it to 10, 12, 40, 50 megapixel was nearly impossible. not anymore.
