Charter Internet still having trouble supporting client VPN problems

In the past few months, the latest VPN technology from McAfee is killing some customers who are complaining about performance issues. They are spectrum charter clients and the mcafee vpn is chopping their speed from 100mb/10mb up/down to 30-40mb/5-6mb up/down.
Just turning off the mcafee vpn and their network speeds bounce all the way back to normal. it appears the november mcafee vpn update and still has issues. oh well. we knew vpn clients would have some choke point somewhere.
clients call me, i check their network, and we talk to charter and of course, the mcafee vpn should not be the issue, yet speedtest shows some strange different network ip allocation, instead of a spectrum ip, so we look around and see the vpn and turn it off and all is well. the spectrum support folks don't know yet at least they are nice enough to confirm up/down speeds and modem version and latest provisioning config to match billing profile parameters.
oh well, the clients want the vpn for privacy and security, yet complain about the slow speeds. i say, skip the vpn for most and just use the browsers vpn dns features and call that good enough. most sites are now ssl anyhow.
