I had a few questions this week on CPU & frequency, and I'll just riddle down the list of recommendations:

Depending on your home versus work needs, the processor manufacturer and process frequency matters:

Core Processor?
Intel - gaming
AMD - scientific
ARM - mobile

Core Frequency?
5.0 or higher - engineering systems
4.0 or higher - workstations
3.0 or higher - desktops
2.0 or higher - business laptops, normal usage
1.0 or higher - laptops, really light weight

When it comes to servers in the data center versus the research center, it CPU class comes into play and gets a little interesting.

1. Intel Core versus Intel Xeon
2. AMD Ryzen versus AMD Threadripper

There are is more to come if Apple and Microsoft start their own processor manufacturing. I remember Apple had Motorola for the longest time and then switched to Intel, and now they are back to maybe their own solutions.

I remember the days of Cyrix and others that were trying to crack into the Intel market share.

more to come...
