On the technical only vocational side, as a computer systems engineer and computer systems and data analyst for nearly 30 years, i can tell you without a doubt, Intel was great in early years as far as engineering and marketing, and now just a sales and marketing and contract binding machine in these latter years, much like Microsoft has been all along.
So, what am I talking about? Is Intel better than AMD? yes and no, it depends.
Linus Torvalds, the man behind Linux, thinks differently. He used to believe in Intel until recent years where he believes and claims AMD is better in price vs performance. I agree.
I have an AMD 3950X for my development work and Linus has a 3970X. The Intel Xeon vs AMD EPYC are no comparison when it comes to price for performance. AMD beats Intel. Intel does have a lock on other things. If you read the article, you will see that AMD gives you twice the performance for twice the price, whereas, Intel gives you twice the performance for five times the price. That is a no-brainer!
anyhow, when it comes to purchasing higher end systems for engineering and programming, your software will dictate your platform, yet if you can do it, choose AMD.
