Last night I was launching on of my virtual machines running Linux Mint 19.2 MATE and the update popped up for 19.3 and I said, sure, let's go ahead.

Well, my Hard Drive allocation VDI in Oracle Virtual Box was only 32GB, and I did not pay attention to available disk space.Well, after 10 minutes, I got a prompt, nearly out of disk space, 800MB left. I was like oh s*it.

So, I looked and did a quick cleanup of trash and got back another ~1GB of free space, and removed some downloads giving me back a totally of ~2GB to continue. *whew*

So, once the update from 19.2 to 19.3, I had to look around to see where did 50% of the disk space free go.

Well, it was more like this:

1. Did a quick terminal command : sudo apt autoremove -- cleared out 900MB. now 1.7GB free.
2. The update manager for kernels was 4 deep, so i removed all the old kernels -- freed up 4GB more
3. Timeshift had 4 backups total, so I removed a few up to the last before the 19.2 to 19.3. -- freed up 12GB more

That was it. df -h reported back with a total ~50% freed up, and now back to more updates and ending up with 60% used and 40% free.
