For those in the know, 8 core (octo) computers for the home and business should be and are mainstream now. If you accept anything less, you are being ripped off. Quad core was the standard, yet that started going away about 3 years ago, and now 8 core is mainstream
If you are unsure, just look at the PC specifications of a computer you are buying. If it is 4 core or 6 core, then ask for something a little better, even for a little more money.
Which computers are on the market now that are 8 core that are affordable? Well, you have to look. The Intel line-up is coming up short with only 6-core, and AMD is definitely in the know with their Ryzen and FX series;
Go with AMD Ryzen 7 2700X or AMD Ryzen 3700X if you can!!
NOTE: even when 1TB 7200 RPM HDD are being slipped into current builds, along with 5400 RPM 500GB HDDs, don't be fooled. Get 500GB SSD drives instead.
If it comes to price versus performance, AMD is better, yet Intel new release of the 10700 series makes one wonder; yet you can't really compare apples to oranges and expect to win. Even the i7 10700K versus 3700X and 3900X, the Intel specs win yet at what cost in terms of power consumption and price. Oh well, throw $400 at an Intel and see. I would put my money on the 2700X and 3700X and jump to the 3950X.
